Graham Reynolds & Brannen Temple THE LONG CENTER (Rollins Studio): May 3rd @ 8pm TICKETS: $10. (Tickets for this event can be purchased online.) MUSIC Two of Austin’s premier composer-bandleaders come together to play a one-night-only super-charged duo set of compositions and improvisations. Specially prepared for the night will be a set of pieces inspired by the other performances at Fuse Box, original pieces by Brannen, coupled with new versions of themes written by Graham for film, theater and dance. Pianist-drummer Graham has composed symphonies and operas, feature film soundtracks (including Richard Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly), theater, ballet, several critically acclaimed CDs and much more. His performance and recording vehicle, the indefinable Golden Arm Trio, play eclectic power-jazz mixed with classical, punk and whatever else Graham is in the mood for. Golden Hornet Project, a non-profit organization formed with fellow composer Peter Stopschinski, has presented scores of concerts and hundreds of new works. Bandleader Temple is Austin’s foremost jazz and session drummer, who’s worked with Chaka Khan, Janet Jackson, Christian McBride, James Cotton, Me’shell Ndegeocello, Hamiett Bluiett, Dr. John and many others. Temple’s fiery jazz-based compositions and playing have been inspiring Austin musicians for years. Brannen has been on faculty at the U. of Texas department of jazz studies as their “drum specialist” for over 5 years. |
